PLH Cup v Oxford

7th December 2019

The Bristol Juniors took on Oxford Juniors in the first round of the 2019/20 Peter Luck-Hille cup. Bristol were playing away at Oxford and during the knock up were intrigued to play on the Oxford court for the first time, with the court different in several dimensions and feeling rather smaller than at home.

In the first singles match Henry Taubman (65) took on Julius Gasson [70] but despite a close match, with many of the games going to game point, Julius won the match 9 games to 2. Dominic Bruton (85) then played Merlin Kavenna [ 85] in the second singles match but this game was also going to Oxford, Julius winning 9 games to 1.

The final match was a doubles game which again was close with the final score in Oxford’s favour 9 games to 3, both the Bristol boys struggling to adjust the length of their shots.

The match was scored by Craig Greenhalgh who ensured that the matches were played in friendly and sporting spirit and helped the Bristol pair learn a lot about playing in different conditions. Afterwards the hosts laid on an excellent tea with an appropriately Christmassy flavour, which was appreciated by all.

Oxford beat Bristol – 3 -0 and go through to the next round.
