The sun shone and 4 LRTA members came to take on the might of BRTC. Sadly that might didn’t stand up to the invaders who played excellent tennis throughout the day and came away with a win of 4 matches to 2.
In line with T&RA guidelines the home team played with an extra handicap of 2points against them.
Fiona Rugg found Jacqui Siu’s hard accurate hitting difficult to cope and despite a spirited defence lost 3-9
Angela Probyn and John Grice’s doubles match was fast, furious and hard hitting against Jacqui and Trudi Machin. Because of the discrepancy between John and Angela’s handicaps (51 and 69) they decided to play one up one back in traditional doubles style. Luckily Angela’s volleying was on song for once and John’s nimbleness, excellent boasts and accurate hitting meant they won 8-3 so 1-1 and plenty to play for.
Trudi, maybe spurred on by her defeat in the previous game but whatever the cause, upped her game and played almost flawless tennis which John could do nothing about. Trudi won 1-9.
Next Alison Trujillo played Sophia Lewis. Alison took a little time to find her form but it turned into a close match which Sophia finally took 5-9.
Alison then paired up with Felicity Sargent to take on Estonia’s finest, Ulla Petti, and Sophia. Again the LRTA ladies were too strong for the home team taking it 3-8 and finally Felicity played singles against Ulla and having dashed to a reasonable lead was pinned back until finally winning 9-6.
Thank you to Ben C for all the marking, and to the LRTA ladies for making it here and giving us all some really good tennis.
